Characters

Bilbo Baggins- Is the main character of the story. He is a hobbit who lives in Bag End, Hobbiton in his hobbit hole. He lived a relaxed and quiet life like most othe hobbits . But that all changed when Gandalf persuaded him to join him and a group of dwarves who were on a quest to retain their stolen gold from a dragon. Bilbo was made the thief of the group. He became a very important and valued member of the group because he saved the group on numerous occasions using his inner strength. The leader of the group, Thorin, wasn’t a good leader and lacked in good plans. Bilbo lead the group through the challenges that they had to face and kept them together when they needed it the most. Bilbo changed from being and average hobbit living in a hobbit hole. He changed into a powerful hero but never let this go to his head. Bilbo never lost his true identity with all his power and he would only use his strength when it was needed.

Gandalf- The old and powerful wizard who persuaded Bilbo to go on the mission. This was very beneficial to the group. He was the guide of the group but keeps his powers and motives from others. He is very wise and always know what is going to come next and is always just in time to help the group through their problems. He didn’t wish to gain anything in return for helping the dwarves but it seems that he joined for his own reasons, such as when he left the group in Mirkwood to fight Necromancer. Gandalf is a very powerful and wise wizard who always helped the group when they needed his assistance.

Thorin Oakenshield- Is the dwarves leader and is a dwarve himself. He is the grandson of Thror and because of this he will inherit the gold when the group gets it back from Smaug, the evil dragon who stole it from Thror. He is saved numerous times by Bilbo. He always gets himself into situations that Bilbo has to either fix or rescue him from. He was a very unlikable character throughout the book. He didn’t offer any thing that would benefit the group and wouldn’t accept others input on plans even though he didn’t come up with any good plans himself. He did apologize to Bilbo in the end, before he died giving him gifts. This made his character a little more respectable and honorable.
